At this years spring court of honor, many new ranks were officially announced for troop 232’s scouts. The troop even had an Eagle Scout presented, Mr Ryder Smith! Some memories from this years Spring camporee, last years fall camporee, winter camp, and the troops canoeing campout were shared. Many different scouts got a variety of different merit badges. And finally a big thanks to our MC Nicholas Baker and everyone else who read a part.
Well, what a year 2020 has been. It wasn’t the best year, but the troop made the best out of this weird and crazy year. From March through about Mid July, the Troop participated in online meetings. We learned new ways to interact with each other and learn scout skills simultaneously. In August, the troop got to resume in-person meetings. Even though we were meeting in-person in August, the adults still felt like it wasn’t safe to participate in an in-person campout. The troop still made the best of the situation, and we participated in a “virtual campout.” Durning the virtual campout, scouts still did all the normal campout stuff (cook, sleep in a tent, make a fire, etc.), just in the comfort of the scout’s backyard! Scouts participated in zoom campfires, check-ins, and scout skills. It may have been different than we usually did campouts, but the scouts still had a blast! September came around, and we FINALLY had an in-person campout. The troop went to the Brazos River Center in Glen Rose. The trip’s highlight was when the troop went canoeing for 5 miles down the Brazos River. Everyone had fun! As COVID became more widespread again, restrictions were tightened, and as a result, our October campout was canceled, but we still met for in-person meetings. In November, the Troop headed down to TRJ for the annual November Camporee. Scouts worked on skills such as shooting, orientation, and pioneering. At the campfire, the troop won second place for Axe Throwing! As December came, Circle 10 still had plans to keep the annual council-wide Winter Camp a go! Even with COVID restrictions, the Troop got to end the year at Winter Camp! Scout’s got to participate in a wide variety of Merit Badges and afternoon activities. Even with all the restrictions, it just gave a sense of normalcy. All in All, 2020 wasn’t the best year, but the Troop still had a pretty successful year with 1 scout earning the rank of Eagle, and many scouts very close to earning their Eagle! We are looking forward to seeing what 2021 has to offer!
